About

In 2014, a Committee was formed to establish a Museum for the community.  The committee has strong and dedicated members who are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The group is faced with challenges, as most start-up organizations are.  These challenges include, but are not limited to financial resources, aging population demographic, loss of historical artifacts and stories, and creating community partnerships.

In January 2015, the Western District Historical Society was formally registered with the Province of Alberta.  We have bylaws in place to which we must adhere in operating as a Society.  The Society has successfully established partnerships with the Town of Strathmore, Wheatland County, Community Futures Wild Rose and individual stakeholders who have a vested interest in community enhancement.

The Society members have engaged in a Board Development Workshop, training with Glenbow Museum, and research through Alberta Culture and the Alberta Museum Society.
